Elkford is proud to boast it’s over 40 km of marked interpretive hiking and biking trails surrounding the beautiful town. Elkford is majestically located in the Elk River Valley, which begins along the edge of the continental divide and provides superb wilderness hiking and extreme mountain biking experiences.  The Elkford trails are typically easy to moderate, well maintained and signed with nominal elevation gain. The narrow forested single-tracks are great for intermediate mountain bikers. Some sections require technical riding over slippery tree roots, soft earth, and over narrow, wooden boardwalks. The river valley itself has abundant old roads and trails along its riverbanks that are great for mountain biking. For the more adventuresome who are up for a physical challenge, there are many valleys and mountain passes that branch off of the main valley. These mountain passes are filled with old logging and mining exploration rads. Moose, cougars, grouse, grizzly and black bears, and other wildlife are frequently seen along these trails. Use at your own risk.
